Under the hood, it's got a 2.5-liter engine that's capable of 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque, which is up from last year's 170 horsepower and 174 lb-ft torque. Additionally, the engine now has direct fuel injection and continuous variable transmission, which allows for a quieter ride and better acceleration. In terms of fuel economy, the 2019 Forester comes in at 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, for a combined total of 29 mpg. This puts the vehicle near the top of its class in this respect.

Interior and Technology

There's plenty of space for both first row and second row passengers in the 2019 Forester, with the second row offering a noteworthy 40 inches of legroom. The front row seats have been widened by 1.2 inches and now have another inch of space between them for a much roomier feel than before. Additionally, these seats come with manual adjustment, but these turn into power-adjustable seats at the higher trim levels. Cargo space comes in at 35.4 cubic feet with the second row of seats upright, and this increases to 76.1 feet with these seats folded down.

Standard features for the 2019 Forester include an infotainment touchscreen (6.5 inches), Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and adaptive cruise control. However, a good number of optional features appear at the higher trim levels. These include keyless ignition, LED fog lights and headlights, rear USB charging ports, a built-in navigation system, heated seats, and a larger 8-inch touchscreen.

2019 Subaru Forester Interior

Safety features have always been a strong point for the Subaru Forester, and that remains the same for the 2019 edition. These include essentials like automatic emergency braking, collision warnings, and lane keep assistance. Blind spot monitoring and reverse automatic braking are optional on the base trim, but these come standard at the higher trim levels. Additionally, the 2019 Forester introduces a new safety system known as DriverFocus. This advanced technology uses driver eye movements to determine if they appear drowsy or distracted and provides alerts to notify them of this. Additionally, this system can recognize up to five different drivers and automatically adjust to their seating and climate preferences.
