2018 Subaru Outback Price and Specs Review | Hazle Township, PA

2018 Subaru Outback

Serving Hazle Township, PA, Kingston, and Wilkes-Barre

Initially closely linked with the mid-size Legacy sedan—with which it shared a platform—the Outback name gradually segued into standalone status as a highly-utilitarian station wagon. Providing the interior room and high ground clearance of an SUV, the drivability of a sedan, and coming with standard all-wheel drive (like all Subaru vehicles), the Subaru Outback is perennially one of the top vehicles in its class. For 2018, the Outback is available as a base-level model, the Premium, the Limited, and the Touring.

Exterior and Performance

The standard workhorse on the 2018 Subaru Outback is the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder horizontally-opposed (H) SUBARU BOXER® engine, which produces 175 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. However, if you choose the Limited or Touring, you can get a model that is powered by a 3.6-liter H6, which provides 256 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. Linked to the engine is a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which uses a continuous range of effective gear ratios, rather than the usual gear shifting mechanism of traditional transmissions, for a smoother and more efficient drive. The CVT includes a 6-speed manual mode with paddle shifters for a more exhilarating driving feel. The all-wheel-drive system on the Outback—instrumental for enhanced traction on slippery surfaces—is further boosted by X-MODE® for optimal traction on low-friction surfaces.

Interior and Technology

Designed as a five-seater, the 2018 Subaru Outback provides up to 108.1 cubic feet. Standard cargo volume is set at 35.5 cubic feet, although you can fold down the rear bench-style seat to expand it to 73.3 cubic feet. On the Premium, Subaru adds 10-way power adjustability on the driver’s seat and heating capability on both front seats. The Limited is upgraded with 10-way power adjustability extended to the front passenger seat, both front seats having cooling capability, and all seats bearing leather trim (instead of cloth). The Touring is the only variant with a heated steering wheel.

For infotainment, the 2018 Subaru Outback starts off with a four-speaker AM/FM audio with Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone-based control, a USB port and audio jack for connecting mobile devices, and a 6.5-inch Subaru STARLINK™ LCD-touchscreen infotainment interface. Dual-zone automatic climate control and dual front-seat and dual rear-seat USB ports are added on the Premium and higher. Also, the infotainment system is upgraded with six-speaker STARLINK™ audio—as well as a larger, 8-inch touchscreen, an additional USB port, HD Radio, hands-free texting, a four-month trial subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio, and a single-disc CD player. On the Limited, Subaru adds keyless access, push-button engine start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a garage-door opener; and infotainment gets a boost with a 12-speaker 576-watt Harman Kardon audio system. Exclusive to the Touring is 8-inch touchscreen navigation.

Added on the Premium trim and up is the STARLINK™ Safety and Security suite of services that includes automatic collision notification, SOS emergency assistance, roadside assistance, and stolen vehicle recovery. Blind-spot detection with lane change assist and rear cross-traffic assist is reserved for the Limited and Touring. And exclusive to the Touring are reverse automatic braking, high beam assist, and EyeSight® driver-assistance technology that includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane departure and keep assist.
